Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC)

A Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) includes use of the CCMHC certification mark and recognition as a professional who has met high national standards for the practice of clinical mental health counseling by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).  The CCMHC must hold at least a master’s degree with a major study in counseling including at least 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of graduate-level academic credit in counseling, as well as meeting other eligibility requirements. 

Coursework covering several content areas including abnormal psychotherapy and psychopathology.   The CCMHC must document at least 100 hours of clinical supervision and complete at least 3,000 hours of clinical client contact.   Certification renewal requires 100 hours of continuing education, of which, at least half must be in this specialty.

 

Finally, the CCMHC  must obtain a passing score on the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
